KARNIKA India’s first premium cruise ship arrived at Alang ship recycling yard.

The large cruise ship was taken place in 1990, and her first name was Crown Princess. She was owned by Princess Cruises. Then after 3 owners have changed.

In 2018, she was sold to Jalesh Cruises and renamed Karnika, debuting in 2019. During the pandemic, KARNIKA also forced to stop her voyage. Jalesh Cruises ceased operating in October 2020.

She was sold for scrap in Alang. KARNIKA was 14 stories premium cruise ship, and she was the first Indian premium cruise ship. Cruise ships have 105 feet breadth, 804 feet long.

She owned the capacity to run at the maximum speed of 20 knots. Karnika has the capacity to handle 2000 passengers at a time. And 623 crew members’ accommodation was available on the ship.

Karnika was initially scheduled to homeport in Mumbai, operating cruises along the Indian coast, and in Dubai in summer 2019, before returning to Mumbai. Jalesh Cruises suspended operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some untoward financial circumstances have forced the owner to sold her through court for demolition purposes. NKD Maritime bought her for US$ 11.65 million. She was beached in Alang for scrap in November 2020. All the luxury are on board KARNIKA.

The luxurious premium cruise ship becomes the main attraction at Alang ship recycling yard after INS Viraat attracted visitors. The cruise ship has 837 different categorized rooms, eight dining venues which include a waterfront restaurant, two swimming pools, a spa and fitness complex on two decks, a marquee theatre, wine room, casino, bars, kids center, jogging tracks, volleyball and basketball courts among others.

Mr.Sandip Patel, who has traveled from Mumbai to Dubai on Karnika, expressed that “though it was our first experience to travel by ship, we have enjoyed at king size.” The ship has all the modern facilities. There was every type of food available. The accommodation was quite comfortable. Karnika has touched the shore of Alang in November.

Within 3 months of time, an 11 k.m. long market located just outside of Alang ship recycling yard will be flooded with all the luxurious items of Karnika. Beds, Bed shits, crockeries, Gym equipment, utensils, steel equipment, types of machinery, navigational items, Kids entertainments, Games, Sports equipment will attract visitors and buyers.

End buyer of Cruise ship Mr.Mukesh Patel talking with SHIPPING INBOX opined that it was cruise ship hence she was the heavy draft, reason why she beached 4500 feet away from our plot. We will fetch this ship with the helping equipment during high tide. This is a large ship hence it may take 6 months to finish off.

After such a long period, an attractive ship arrived at Alang, hence KARNIKA will be remembered for a long time. During the pandemic number of cruise ships have sent for demolition, but only KARNIKA touched the shore of Alang, the rest ships beached in Turkey.
