Saurashtra and Surat are getting to connect with sea route: Modi


On eve of the inauguration of Ghogha-Hazira Ro-Pax ferry service, Prime Minister of India twitted that “Sunday is an extremely important day for Gujarat, as Saurashtra and Surat are getting to connect with sea route”.

Narendra Modi on Saturday said that “I will inaugurate Ghogha-Hajira Ro-Pax ferry service through video conferencing on 8th November at 11 a.m.”. “This is my dream project, 5000 vehicles between Saurashtra and Surat runs on the road, this connectivity will now available from sea route also”.

Shipping Minister of India, Masukh Mandaviya said that “370 k.m. of road route and 10-12 hours journey will now finish within 4 hours through ferry service”. He added that “many industries and businesses are going to be benefited; this will reduce cost and employment opportunities will create”.

There are huge potentialities of sea route traffic between Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Visionary union shipping minister Mandaviya always keeping busy himself for developing water transportation and coastal traffic. Mandaviya ease ship recycling business with drastically change in ship recycling act, and now he makes it possible Ro-Pax ferry service between Ghogha and Hajira, which fall in doldrum after the failure of Ghogha-Dahej project.

Ferry operator, chairman of Indigo Seaways Pvt. Ltd., Mr.Chetan Contractor said that “both ends of Hazira and Ghogha have enough draft for the ship, and between Saurashtra and Surat daily travelling of 5000 vehicles will ease their voyage”.

Capt DK Manral, CEO of Indigo Seaways Pvt. Ltd., opined that “Ro-Pax ship Voyage Symphony maybe a three decks vessel with the load capacity of 30 trucks (of 50 MT each) on the most deck, 100 passenger cars on the deck and 500 passengers plus 34 crew & hospitality staff on the passenger deck, the ship has all ultra-modern life savings equipment”.

There will be several wide-ranging benefits of the Hazira-Ghogha Ro-Pax ferry service. it’ll work as a Gateway to South Gujarat and Saurashtra region. it’ll reduce the space between Ghogha and Hazira from 370 km to 90 km. The reduced cargo time period from 10 to 12 hours to about 4 hours will end in huge savings of fuel (approx 9000 litres per day) and lower the upkeep cost of vehicles drastically.

“The ferry service, while making three round trips/day on the Hazira-Ghogha route, would annually transport about 5 lakh passengers, 80,000 passenger vehicles, 50,000 two-wheelers and 30,000 trucks. it’ll reduce the fatigue of the truck drivers and enhance their incomes by giving them more opportunities to try to extra trips. it’ll also cause a discount in CO2 emission by approximately 24 MT per day and net saving of roughly 8653 MT once a year,” the release said.
